Gloucestershire 5km Championships

Jon Mansfield reports...

Tewkesbury AC runners made up 10% of the 5km County championship field at the White Horse on 18th May, and they all did the club proud. Fearful of a black, water-laden cloud heading towards Sandhurst, the runners knew they couldn’t hang about. Starting amongst a collection of local outstanding talents where, ten runners whizzed past the first mile maker in under 5 minutes, it wasn'’t until 15 minutes into the race when the cloud burst. Despite the torrential downpour, both Dudfields sliced time off their pb’s. Stuart set a new time agonisingly just outside 20 minutes, while Mrs Dudfield hacked 15 seconds from her previous best result. Beverly Thomas ran strongly through deep puddles, over ducks and around a canoe to be rewarded with her fastest run to date. Angie Sadler put several young pretenders to shame to finish 3rd overall female. Jon Mansfield led Jason Draper and Roger Bennett home, with Bennett especially pleased with his race. Rob Jordan, fresh from Monday’s Berkeley 10km, came in a few seconds over 21 minutes, while Sandie Harwood avenged Lisa Kane after last months dramatic sprint finish at Hereford.
