Coastal Marathon, 26/02/2006

Alan Dumper reports....

"On Saturday ultra distance specialists Phillip Howells and Angie Sadler travelled to a very snowy and windy Devon for the Coastal Marathon at Beesands near Kingsbridge.Conditions were so bad that the organisers decided that the marathon course was too dangerous and decided to use two laps of the half marathon course instead. Completing the first lap in 2 hours and 18 minutes the pair caught another group of runners which included the leading lady. This caused the pace to increase as Sadler battled for the lead and in the end she lost out by a few seconds to her younger rival but was happy to take first place in the veterans race and to finish a magnificent 10th overall in 4 hours and 27 minutes. Howells battled on strongly finishing two minutes later in 11th place and take the vet 50 prize.
